AFL launches new School Direct Partnership

The Alliance for Learning Teaching School and SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) at Bright Futures Educational Trust have announced a new School Direct partnership programme with Culcheth High School in Warrington.

This innovative partnership will open its doors to the first cohort of postgraduate trainee teachers in 2020. The programme will be spearheaded by Jodie Lomax (Culcheth High School’s Lead Teacher of Research) and Adam Brown (Culcheth High School’s Deputy Headteacher). The trainees recruited to the programme will be the first cohort from the Alliance for Learning to be based at the Culcheth Campus with the view that their first placement will take place in the setting. One of the great things about Culcheth High School is their evidence informed approach to professional development. We know all our trainees  will gain comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the very best research on cognitive science that will allow them to make the very best choices about teaching and learning.

Jodie comments: “Culcheth High School will take a lead on the recruitment of the trainees with a view to grow our own staff base and the strength the field of teaching staff in the Warrington and Greater Manchester areas, so this is a fantastic opportunity for us and future teachers in the wider local area.”

Lisa Fathers, Director of Teaching School & Partnerships at The Alliance for Learning, adds: “We are very excited to be working with such a great network of teachers and look forward to the benefits this will bring to the wider SCITT through the increase of teaching, research and pedagogical expertise the Culcheth staff with be able to offer.

“The Alliance for Learning has a well established reputation for producing high quality trainees and this makes our geographical reach will be broader, accessing areas of Cheshire and Greater Manchester that until now have been difficult to access. Culcheth High School is ideally located for those potential trainees that wish to train to teach in the Cheshire area and the campus is ideally situated within easy reach of the Alliance for Learning Teaching School, which is housed at Altrincham Grammar School for Girls. “

This is a postgraduate fee paying route into teacher, available to potential trainees who have secured their first degree in the subject area (or a degree closely aligned to their curriculum subject area) who have secured a 2:2 or higher, English and Maths GCSE are also essential entry criteria
