Marton win inaugural Fit2Go Games in Blackpool

Out of all of the Primary Schools in Blackpool, Marton Primary Academy emerged victorious in the Fit2Go Games 2021.

Fit2Go is the health and well-being programme from Blackpool Football Club Community Trust (BFCCT) which is delivered in every primary school in Blackpool.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions at the time, classes took part in a range of virtual challenges over four weeks, these ranged from running the length of the home of Blackpool FC, Bloomfield Road, to designing a feature for a new BFCCT workbook. The Games finished with an online workout that was attended by 430 primary aged children across Blackpool.

With schools tasked with completing weekly challenges to win their classes points, over the weeks the points were tallied up to decide who would be the first-ever Fit2Go Games Champions.

Marton 4B were presented with their Fit2Go Games Trophy at the end of the Summer term, after a fantastic effort with their challenge submissions.

Class teacher, Mr Haigh said “I was thrilled after seeing how hard my class had worked and how much enthusiasm they showed throughout the programme. Not only did they score top points from their challenge submissions, but the class also pushed themselves to score bonus points by uploading their attempts to social media and going above and beyond in their efforts.”

Some members of the winning team are pictured here with their fantastic trophy. Well done, Marton!

Our academies have been members of the Youth Sport Trust (YST) for over five years. In that time our schools have built on their PE provision, gained School Games Quality Marks/Youth Sport Trust Quality Marks, sent students to the ‘Step into Sport Camps’, had athlete visits, benefited from the GM Mentally Healthy Schools programme/Lancashire Active Lives and much, much more. Our Teaching School Hubs have YST on the board of strategic partners and through our SCITT we have run various CPD courses with them along with our PE & Sports Hub, led by the Altrincham Grammar School for Girls PE team. Our academies are also part of the YST Well Schools movement which began in 2020 and is characterised by a commitment to celebrating wider educational outcomes alongside exam results. It is in response to research which revealed parents’ appetite for schools to focus on young people’s physical, social and emotional wellbeing above all else.
