Performing Arts at South Shore Academy

The Performing Arts team at South Shore Academy has been busy over the last few weeks – Year 7 pupils have been studying World Music this term and have explored the ‘Ragas’ of Indian music. Pupils composed a Raga on their own on a keyboard or using their voice and then emailed in their compositions, accompanied by their own lyrics. The theme had to be time of the day, mood, deities or seasons. The compositions were amazing; describing the sun, sleep, moods and even cleaning!

Miss Potter, South Shore’s music tutor, has also started to teach online peripatetic music lessons as part of the school’s Performing Arts provision during these difficult times. The aim is to try and help pupils to relax and escape the mundane for a while. Music is so important and it is great to see how it can connect people, even when they are apart.
